Change in assessment Pattern for Grades I & II

National Centre for Excellence Jeevan Bhima Nagar - Student Assessment
Circular No: NCFEJBN_2022-23_019
As students of Grades, I and II began reporting to school, it was observed primarily during class interactions, students who were responding and performing so well during the online classes were not meeting their age-appropriate expectations. Furthermore, student‘s socio-behavioral interaction is limited to 2 or 3 students, with no group interactions or socialization.

Therefore, it is highly important that the teachers devote their focus to work on the areas of special attention, care, socialization and behavior which are age appropriate.

Going forward, in grades 1 & 2, following are the areas of focus for the teachers during the teaching and learning periods.

Fine Motor Development

The development of these skills is dependent on the age-appropriate development of physical skills, which have to be emphasized during the initial periods. (Coloring within lines, coloring shapes, drawing basic pictures, cutting out simple shapes, using a three-finger grip on a pencil). This provides a stable foundation for the development of writing skills.

Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing abilities (LSRW)

In terms of learning abilities, our focus will be to develop the reading and writing skills followed by listening and speaking.

Following Instructions

Young students must pay close attention, listen carefully and concentrate to maintain focus throughout a variety of activities. As a result, they must first learn the importance of listening to others and follow instructions. Therefore, our pattern of assessment of UNIT TEST 1 will now be focused on the development of these skills. The assessment pattern will be closely aligned with the GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT ASSESSMENT CHART that will be implemented for Grades I and II for this academic year.

Note

In line with this, our focus would be to reduce bag weight for the students. This will be done by retaining some of the books in the classroom by the teachers. These books will be sent home once a month/ whenever appropriate for your reference.

Looking forward to your support and cooperation.
