Beware of digital footprints-Someone is watching you!

“Think before you click. If people do not know you personally and if they cannot see you as you type, what you post online can be taken out of context if you are not careful in the way your message is delivered.” ― Germany Kent

National Centre for Excellence - Importance of digital footprint

A digital footprint is the trail of data you create when you go online. Like emails you send, websites you visit, and other information submitted online. Remember every time you go online to share your content, thoughts, posts, or allow cookies to collect information, you are invariably adding it to your digital footprint.

  • A digital footprint is a digital trace that we leave behind on the Internet. The average person has an online footprint that can be used to determine who they are, what they do, how they do it, and so on. It might sound strange, but it’s very true.

  • Since the Internet has become an increasingly important part of our lives, it’s crucial that we understand what our digital footprint is and how to control it. Since the average person is on the Internet at least once a day, it’s important to know what you’re doing with your digital footprint, whether you’re leaving one intentionally or not.

  • Our digital footprints are important to take into consideration as they can be used to manipulate you and your business. Although no one can tell if your digital footprint is really you, it can be used to trick companies and individuals into thinking it is you.

  •  To avoid this you should be aware of your digital footprint and be aware of how it can be manipulated. Our digital footprint is becoming crucial as we are relying more and more upon technology and the internet.

  • If you are not sure what your browsing history says about you, you are not alone. Today, almost everyone is actually wondering if someone actually reads his/her private emails, or if someone spies on his/her activities.

  • if someone is tracking his/her online search history; if someone can find out what he/she does on social media, or what information is shared by users on the Internet. Everyone wants to know if someone is actually watching him/her and what exactly is being monitored.

Have you ever wondered how fast your online reputation can be ruined by a bad experience?

  • You might think this is a bit paranoid, but I’m sure you’ve read some news articles about how damaging this kind of exposure can be. If you haven't, then just Google it. You’ll find that you can ruin someone’s career, and even destroy someone's life by simply invading their privacy and posting damaging information about them on the internet.

  • But we don’t need to go to such extreme measures to see the effects our words and actions can have on another person’s life. We can actually see what kind of damage we’re doing to ourselves and our own privacy and reputation without even realizing it.

  • There are certain tools that can be used to find all the information that can be found about you on the internet. These tools are called digital footprint tools. They let you know what information is publicly available about you online, including your name, address, email, phone number, social media accounts, photos, and websites.

Do we need to incorporate this into education?

National Centre for Excellence - Digital footprint in education

  • The curriculum of a student in a secondary school in today's day and age should be a comprehensive one. This curriculum should be a comprehensive one. It should not only cover the basics of the English language but also teach the students the art of creating a positive digital footprint that can be beneficial to their future.

  • The students should be taught how to be careful on the internet. They should be taught about the dangers of posting anything on social media sites. What is important for them is to be conscious about everything they do on the internet. And to develop this consciousness, students should be taught how to be mindful of the internet.

  • The digital footprint of a student is a new concept in education. A digital footprint is the trail of digital information left by a person, organization, or other entity on the Internet. In recent years, the term digital footprint has been used as a term to describe the digital traces or fingerprints of a particular person, or a group of people, who have been active on the Internet.

  • A digital footprint is the sum of digital information collected on a person. As a result of a person's digital footprint, a comprehensive profile of a person's interests, activities, and relationships can be collected and analyzed.
