Student engagement in the classrooms generally will be pretty low, as can be seen in the classroom’s atmosphere. Engaging students will become a tedious task for teachers during these times. How can we engage students and make learning interesting is a challenge for the teacher? Children get engaged only when learning is interesting and by connecting the learning to real life. Engagement and learning go hand-in-hand

Why is getting students to participate is vital?

  • Active participation in students leads to behavioral, cognitive, and emotional developments in them enhancing the learning. Students’ engagement increases their achievement.

  •  Research has found that engaging students in the learning process develops their attention, which helps in the retention of the concepts.

Why must the teacher be the main driver behind this?

  • Teachers play a vital role in engaging  students. Classroom atmosphere  depends on students behavior and also teachers actions.

  • It is important for a teacher to establish a positive and healthy relationship with students to make the classroom a happy place to learn.

  • Student engagement and an Integrated approach toward teaching makes learning interesting and fun instead of following the rote method of teaching which is failing to attract students' engagement in the class.

  • In the integrated method, the lesson is taught with the help of music, visual arts, drama, and physical education. overall strengthens student engagement

These are a few examples of integrating one subject with another for best learning outcomes.

Play based learning: Learning happens through playing. The students are engaged in the play for the entire duration of the class. Examples include playing games like Bingo, ludo, Snake and Ladder, and Hopscotch.

Activity/Project based learning:Activity/Project based learning helps in creating healthy classroom environments where students are engaged and excited about learning. It challenges students to work individually or in groups to meet the final outcome. student engagement  develops critical thinking and interdisciplinary skills among students. This is student-driven learning, where the teacher acts like a facilitator and extends support to the students. This develops a sense of responsibility in them

This learning involves:

  • Listening to students’ opinions and ideas about the activity.

  • Encouraging them to apply what they learned in the classroom.

  • Not being controlling and authoritative with students and allowing them to develop their own method of problem solving

  • Giving students the time and space they need to understand and do an activity by themselves.

  • Giving them adequate inputs about the activity.

Inquiry-based learning method: Inquiry-based learning encourages students to pay attention to an open question or problem. This develops a keen interest among students in the “why” and they work in groups or individually to find out the answer. Creative, reasoning, and problem-solving skills are developed among them.

Gamification:Gamification involves setting learning and behavior goals, creating a points system where students can work their way towards the goal and earn a reward. Goals may include

  • Good behavior
